Welcome to the ultimate edition of Staple Remover. This will be my final article for CommanderCast. If you were a fan of my articles it will most likely be bitter, and if you didn’t care for my writing it’ll be sweet! It’s been fun being a part of the crew here on CommanderCast first as the writer of Massive Art Attack and then for Staple Remover. If you have enjoyed my oddball decklists and discussion topics, please read on. This week I’ll be ranking my five favorite articles that I have contributed.

Eggs are delicious especially when seasoned with your opponents salty tears. This week’s general of choice is Sydri, so you know what that means… I am building EDH eggs. Your opponents will love (looooove) how you make one mana artifacts leisurely change zones, trigger minor abilities and inexplicably move you closer to victory at a snails pace. Why sit there waiting to hit 4 mana to start making plays when you can be chucking fistfuls of cheap crappy artifacts into play as early as turn 1? We are talking A.B.C. Always Be Casting. If you’d rather have 10 permanents that don’t do anything than 1 permanent that does Things, this is the deck for you. This is Sydri side up with a side of durdled eggs and it doesn’t know the meaning of the word “bomb.”

Have you ever built a deck that is very consistent? In some situations this is a positive goal to reach with your deck design. You crafted the list so well that it is able to execute it’s primary objective mostly every game. However, for me, high consistency can grow dull when it is fairly linear. For awhile my favorite commander was Bruna, Light of Alabaster. She provides a very powerful end-game to the u/w control deck I crafted around her. Unfortunately after many games of her following the same path to victory my favorite deck fell out of favor and became stale like a box of cereal that was left open. Luckily Theros and Born of the Gods recently swooped in to save the day to do a total Extreme Makeover Theros Edition on her. Read on to see how the new block inspired changes to my once-favorite list.

Are you a standard player thinking of switching to EDH?

This week my article is aimed at standard players who want to give commander a whirl or commander players who want to give standard commander a try. Standard commander is just what it sounds like. You build a commander deck except you are restricted to cards that are currently legal in standard. If someone was new to commander wouldn’t they just want to buy a C13 preconstructed deck? I think if someone plays a lot of standard and draft, breaking into the format by making a deck with their existing pool of cards is the best choice.  Why go out and buy a preconstructed deck with cards they may never play with again? Read on to see my Vorel standard commander list as well as my break down of the pros and cons of the format.

This will be my fourth season writing for Commandercast.com and I hope you have had a chance to enjoy an article or more of mine along the way. This season I will be switching to a bi-weekly schedule, but that means I should have more time to explore my topics in greater depth. I may not have as many articles for you to read this go around, but my goal is that they will be meatier, more like a thick stew than a soup. What is the soup of the day today? Whiskey of course!
In a lot of my writing I try to expand peoples deck building horizons. Instead of using the same old win conditions or blindly throwing in the same “staple” cards I like to dig deeper into the Magic card catalog to find something a little… fresher. However, I am positive not every deck you face will follow this same theme. There are plenty of cards and strategies I am sure you are pretty tired of, so this time around I’m going to invent staples! I created my own cards that I think would combat abusive strategies that you may come across in your commander games a little too often. Read on to see what anti-staple staples I’ve concocted.

It’s time to finish off my mono colored deck building series with the one remaining color, red.  Red is all about getting the job done without subtility and planning.  It wants to smash and blast its way to victory while shocking and awing its opponents.  It is basically the Michael Bay of colors.  That is why I am presenting you the Michael Bay Super Action Mono Red Deck. BOOM! Action! BLAM! Magic Cards. KABOOOM!
