This entry is part 438 of 439 in the series CommanderCast

Hello everyone and welcome to CommanderCast Episode 407! This week Mark and Adam ask the question… Are you insane? And if so, are you Laboratory Maniac insane? Today we want to know how far you are willing to go in order to win? But first, WotC wants $100… What? That’s basically all I understood about one of the upcoming products. I’m pretty sure the guys will have a better understanding about it… I think.

All that, plus our usual interstitial fodder, and all you have to do is Click the IB!!!

Interstitial fodder:

  • Movies
    • The Conversation might be the best bad movie or the worst good movie I’ve ever seen.
      • Side note: Fredo (John Cazale) has the best batting avg. of any actor ever.
    • Serpico holds up really well in the current moment.
    • Tusk because Kevin Smith

Strategy

Lab Maniac reconsidered: why EDH players both love & hate it

Pros:

  • Was innovative
  • Alt win conditions are inherently fun
  • Combo is really the only way to win this way
    • But leads to many different ways to the same goal (dredge, draw, self mill)
  • It is not that hard to disrupt
  • No need to keep tapping and untapping cards from combat

Cons:

  • BORING.  Winning the same way every time is not fun to play against, because it runs counter to the inherent variance of the format.
  • It’s non-interactive.
  • Puts a target on you for playing it.
  • They keep printing more of this effect.
