DISCUSS: New Kaladesh mechanics: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/kaladesh-release-notes-2016-09-16

Energy counters

Designer #1: “You know what this game needs?”

Designer #2: “More fiddly tokens to keep track of?”

Designer #1: “Man, you read my mind!”

Vehicles

Designer #1: “Those new energy tokens are sweet, huh?”

Designer #2: “Preach it, brother. We are like this close [holds up thumb and forefinger into little squishy motion in front of his face] to making this thing into a full-on board game. Screw those people that didn’t like Arena of the Planeswalkers.”

Designer #1: “I know, right?  Hey, what if we just threw in a whole ‘nother card type into this set, too.  Let’s make it like Equipment, but more confusing.”

Designer #2: “I’ve never said this to another person before, but I think I love you.”

Fabricate – “When this permanent enters the battlefield, you may put [X] +1/+1 counters on it. If you don’t, create [X] 1/1 colorless Servo artifact creature tokens.”

Designer #1: “Did you finish revising the seating chart for the wedding yet? There is no way that my Uncle Gary should be sitting next to your Aunt Mildred.”

Designer #2: “I will, I promise, but there’s still something that’s bothering me about this new set.  I feel like it’s missing something.”

Designer #1: “Look, we’ve already created new & confusing tokens and card types, goofy little symbols, and added some sweet filigree edging on the card frames.  What else could we possibly toss in at this point?”

Designer #2: “Ugh, I don’t know.  I just feel like it needs something that can abuse Doubling Season even more than it already is, ya know? Maybe a new keyword that makes counters and tokens?”

Designer #1: “That is an amazing idea, but MaRo will never let us put that on a card.”

Designer #2: “What if we invite him to the wedding?”

Strategy:  (The only strategy for spoilers is to buy singles instead of a box.  Strategy segment over.)
