This entry is part 54 of 363 in the series CommanderCast

Posted by ANDY aka GHoooSTS
Leaving nothing to luck, S5E2 has brought Sean McKeown back on deck along with two other Godo players to ensure we cover the Bandit Warlord’s thug thizzle adequately. Byron and Carlos have both also played everyone’s favourite shirtless yak-riding Commander extensively, while I contribute little if anything as usual. Welcome to CommanderCast.

However, don’t assume we’ve got an whole episode riding on Godo’s yak-piloting capabilities. You know we’re on deck with a variety of subjects as usual; how we’d change the banned list (and what we like on it), some legendary creatures who are great team players, and the second Warhorses segment. This week’s episode is brought to you by General Damage Control, from whom I stole a segment idea. Thanks Cassidy, please don’t beat me up (he looks WAY bigger than me!). Do yourself a favour and check his site out.

And do keep in mind that our Season 5 Contest is in progress. If you have any musical capabilities (this includes yelling into a microphone), then don’t miss your chance to win some of that sweet, sweet pimpness only Derfington can provide.

Show notes and pertinent links below. Enjoy.

SHOW NOTES

00:00 to 08:30: Intro: Some super-basic introductions to all the things on CommanderCast.

COMMUNITY SEGMENTS

08:42 to 19:22: You Deserve To Win: What does the idea of “you deserve to win” represent? How do you define a ‘deserved’ and ‘undeserved’ victory ? What is the lowest possible effort that should be exerted to win a multiplayer game of Commander? Is there a turn limit, like Wizard’s three-turn policy for the Modern format? A minimum number of cards? Mana investment? Where is it considered reasonable for a person to start winning the game in a deserved fashion?

36:13 to 38:00: Community Spotlight: General Damage Control: It’s Cassidy’s blog. No, not THIS Cassidy… another one. Cassidys (Cassidi? Cassidies?) are apparently running the online Commander scene. Anyway, don’t fuck around. Check out generaldamagecontrol.com for hot fire updated twice weekly!

38:12 to 42:47: Add One, Remove One, Approve One: Inspired by an article from Generaldamagecontrol.com, this week we have a rousing discussion on the banned list where we speak on Adding one card, Removing one card, and Approving one card on the list. It’s a simple subject. How would we sculpt the banned list if we were in charge and how do we justify the changes?

STRATEGY SEGMENTS

43:03 to 1:03:41: Commander Profile: Godo, Bandit Warlord: No shirt, no low CMC, no problems. Godo doesn’t even give the slightest shit about your ‘conventions’. Byron, Carlos and Sean have all rolled deep with Godo in the past and present, and can deliver a dizzying range of styles, cards, and overall advice on how to use Godo to take the piss out of your opponents.

TECHNOLOGY SEGMENTS

1:19:56 to 1:31:41: Team Players: Not all Legends require a deck of their own. Some are perfectly convenient to sit back, chillin’, and be tagged in as part of your other 99. They’re team players. They know their role and they play it well. Never too eager to scream for coach to put them in (due to their affliction with ‘hoop dreamz’), but known to be a reliable presence when needed. These are the Legends we can fall back on in our time of need, but who won’t demand the spotlight. They’re true team players.

Byron’s Picks:

1:31:53 to 1:55:57: Warhorses II: Once we did a segment about cards we consider just plain-old reliable fallbacks. Cards that, like the Team Players just discussed, have always been solid in our decks. Today, we’re sharing our Warhorses once again.
