Hello everyone and welcome back to Rival’s Duel. After our unplanned hiatus, we are back and raring to go. To make up for our time off, we have not one, but two new episodes for you today, including our Commander 2016 set review. We want to thank all the fans who either reached out to us, or sent words of encouragement while we were out. We are happy to be back in the saddle. So enjoy your two scoops of Rival’s Duel and we’ll be back to our regular, every other week schedule from here on out.

Rival’s Duel 72- Pitching a Tentpole

Hello and welcome to another episode of Rival’s Duel. This week, the rival’s return to their roots. The episode is shorter and (dare I say) sexier, and more to the point, Eric and Nole are at each other’s throats with a good argument like the days of old (like before WtoC put out a new product every two weeks). This week, it’s all about the iconic tentpole creatures for each color and which colors are the best. We’ve weighed in with our opinion, and now we want yours. Give it a listen and let us know in the comments below.

(Editor’s Note number 1: Due to some personal issues this episode (originally recorded for an Oct. 6th release) was held up until now. An explanation as to why, and what are plans are going forward, will be coming in the next episode.)

Editor’s Note number 2: We had some issues with the recording again at the end of the episode (You’ll be able to hear when we cut out and Nole had to record a missing bit solo. The problem has been found (A faulty wire in Nole’s headset) and has been fixed.

Intro: The (lack of) News from WotC. – Yay for a lack of spoilers for this episode. We talk briefly about the new FNM and Judge promos (Your welcome, Zur the Enchanter fans) and that’s about it.

Main Topic: Which color pitches the best tent (yay for sophomoric humor)? – WotC has given every color a “tent pole” creature, a big splashy creature that defines that color. White has Angels, Blue has Sphinxes, Black has Demons, Red had Dragons, and Green has Hydra. In this segment Eric and Nole debate which color has the best collection of Tent pole creatures. If you listen carefully, you can even hear the moment that Nole changes teams mid debate. Do you agree with Eric or Nole, or is one of the other three better than the two Eric and Nole chose? Let us know in the comments below.

Rival’s Duel 73- Commander 2016 Set Review

Welcome to another episode of Rival’s Duel. We Are Back and it’s the most wonderful time of the year for commander players. The new Commander pre-cons are out and we finally have four-color legends so Eric can actually build his “anything but blue” deck. We dedicate this episode to all the people who listen to us on a long commute from work, as this episode clocks in at just under two hours long. For any of you who ask why we usually talk about legendary creatures and planeswalkers as soon as they are spoiled, this is why. Cuddle up with your partner, and don’t feel daunted by this impressive set review. Give us a listen and let us know what partner pairings you are looking forward to in the comments below.

Intro- News and whatnot: We take a moment to address our hiatus, as well as talk about what we are going to do from here. As this episode was recorded the day after Election Day, we also talk a little bit about politics, mostly concerning the thing we said we were going to do in the last episode.

Main topic- Commander 2016 set review: This is a pretty meaty review for a relatively small number of cards. We go over the four color generals, the two color generals with partner (including trying really hard to break them and being mesmerized by the impressive shirtless-ness and moustached face of Bruse Tarl), and finally both the new cards and reprints for this set. As they do every year, this set is filled to the brim with goodies and we spend a great deal of time being excited by them.
