By Eric Bonvie and Nole Clauson

378127_10150441621792624_1477312954_n90x90 noleThis week on Rival’s Duel, Eric and Nole, talk about the sweet (and in some cases, deliciously bacon-filled) new cards in Theros and how they will impact Commander. They then take a look at the Pros and Cons of 1v1 commander. (as always, shownotes after the break)

Show Notes:

0:00-2:23 Introduction

-If you’re hearing this on MTG cast or ManaEchoes, hello and welcome to our podcast!

2:23-30:30 Theros Commander’s Review

-Theros, like a gift from the gods, has descended upon us. We look at (and argue about) the merits of the whopping 16 legendary creatures from Theros. Which will be Generals that will join the permanent pantheon of EDH gods and who will be banished to the underworld that is the LGS “Cheap Rare” binder? Listen and find out. Highlights include self-proclaimed blue hater Eric complaining about Thassa, and Nole trying to be really nice to a really bad mono-green Hero.

30:30-43:13 Our Theros EDH Shopping list

-With the General’s out of the way, Nole and Eric talk about a few of the cards they are excited about for their decks.

Nole: Nykthos, Shrine to Nix, Curse of Swine (Piggy Wiggy!), Melitas Charlatan

Eric: Read the Bones, Stormbreath Dragon, Fleecemane Lion

43:13-53:16 A (mercifully short) discussion on 1v1 Commander

-Commander is normally played in a multiplayer setting, however what happens if you play 1v1? Turns out, Nole and Eric disagree on the merits of playing 1v1, with Nole saying that it ruins the social aspects of the game, and Eric pointing out that playing 1v1 makes your group commander experience better. Give it a listen and decide how you feel about this commander niche.
