Like it or not I’m back and it’s time for Massive Art Attack once again.  I was on vaca last week, so I didn’t have any terrible art to serve up and abuse your eyes with.  This week I once again don’t have any terrible art for you, but we do have some very nice alters from a very creative reader, stilledsilence.  As I’ve been mentioning in my articles, if you have cool alters that you would like to share send them on in to olwhiskeyboots@gmail.com and I’ll make sure I feature them in an upcoming article.  Stilledsilence not only responded to the call, but he also has some pretty sweet 3D alters to show off.  Lets take a look.

It’s me, Chris-B, let’s take a look at an art disaster or three.  Or actually a lot more.  This week I take a dive into a set that was a mess on multiple fronts, Fallen Empires.  The best way to describe Fallen Empires is to compare it to Game of Thrones.  Except the Greyjoys are lobsters, the Starks are some fungus, and the Lannisters are fish people all duking it out.  This set sucked in a big way.  The art is just dreadful.  To compound it all they had multiple cards in the set that used 3 or 4 different alternate printings.  Each alternate printing had different art.  Basically, if they did manage to get a good illustration in the 4, one of the other alternates was a complete mess.  I think they wanted to guarantee that not one card had good art, even if they had to print several to make sure it happened.   To finish off this week I’ll show off an alter submitted by a commandercast listener.  It seems everything was conspiring against me finishing this article this week, but I think I did it.  Click the Read More button to see if there is anything there!

Today is Friday.  A great day to sit back and look at some great alters.  I won’t be doing a set art review this week.  Instead I’ll be taking a look at altered cards once again.  This week we have another submission of altered cards from a reader.  Also I will be showing off my favorite alters from my own commander decks.    To wrap up the article. I will be taking a look at a cool new hassle free way to trade.  You may have heard about it on the podcast before, but if you haven’t taken a look at it yet, Pucatrade can hook you up big time.  Now its on to the show.

This week on Massive Art Attack I’ll be taking a look at the most basic of graphic design on a Magic card, the frame.  The old school frames were replaced after being used for ten  years.  The current frames have also now been in use for ten years.  This is my tenth article, so I figured it was a good time to tackle the topic.  I’m going to start off with brief history of the card frames for newer players, then I rank my favorite frame for each color.  Sound kind of interesting?  Then read on!

This week we take a dive into the altered art of Xela.  Xela is a Magic enthusiast and card alterist whom I have had the pleasure to meet through a mutual friend.  The first time I had a chance to flip through the binder of works she has done, I was amazed by how crisp and vibrant her works was.  I hope you enjoy her work as much as I have.  There are plenty of pretty pictures to look at, so lets dive in.

Staple Remover will not be seen this week, instead I have a mid-season Art Attack update for you. For all Staple Remover fans, if there any out there, don’t worry it will be returning next week. It just so happens to be great timing to check into the world of Magic the Gathering art. Wizards has botched a couple things recently that I couldn’t help but address. The new sliver art that has been revealed so far for M14 is a huge mess. Also, I’ll take a look at Garruk’s slowly distorting body as well as the new black on black planeswalker promos that Wizards just announced. Read on!
