Leaving nothing to luck, S5E2 has brought Sean McKeown back on deck along with two other Godo players to ensure we cover the Bandit Warlord’s thug thizzle adequately. Byron and Carlos have both also played everyone’s favourite shirtless yak-riding Commander extensively, while I contribute little if anything as usual. Welcome to CommanderCast.

However, don’t assume we’ve got an whole episode riding on Godo’s yak-piloting capabilities. You know we’re on deck with a variety of subjects as usual; how we’d change the banned list (and what we like on it), some legendary creatures who are great team players, and the second Warhorses segment. This week’s episode is brought to you by General Damage Control, from whom I stole a segment idea. Thanks Cassidy, please don’t beat me up (he looks WAY bigger than me!). Do yourself a favour and check his site out.

And do keep in mind that our Season 5 Contest is in progress. If you have any musical capabilities (this includes yelling into a microphone), then don’t miss your chance to win some of that sweet, sweet pimpness only Derfington can provide.

Season Five IGNITES THE INTERNET with a jump-off so powerful you might not want to wear headphones. I can’t confirm these reports, but I’ve heard of head explosions and similar messiness resulting for a sheer overload of awesomness. For the Season Five jumpoff, we’ve got myself, Donovan, and Justin on deck with the newest member of the Tactical Podcasting Team, Sean Patchen aka Swords to Plow aka Mr. Accumulated Knowledge. You’ve no doubt seen Sean on CommanderCast, heard him on RedCastWins, and are hopefully already following him on Twitter. If not, this episode should convince you to familiarize yourself with this man because he’s a beast with both keyboard and mic.

So, what does the Tactical Podcasting Team tackle this week? It’s an extensive look at last summer’s newfangled Commander product from all angles. First, we scope the implications it’s had for Commander as a format, as well as local impact on our own groups. Then it’s time for a strategy discussion, seeing how the idea of card advantage as king holds up to some scrutiny. To finish the show, we present an exhaustive hands-on set review of Commander. Our favourite cards, ‘what the fuck’ moments and more all encapsulated in a 40 minute discussion.

In other news, our Season 5 Contest is still in progress. If you have any musical capabilities (this includes yelling into a microphone), then don’t miss your chance to win some of that sweet, sweet pimpness only Derfington can provide. You should also probably check out the ongoing Gifts Given auctions… FOR THE CHILDREN

We’re kicking off Olde-Tyme Week here at CommanderCast! Join me in celebrating our first theme week with a sweet olde-tyme jig around the good ol’ phonograph, then settle down (if you can; them jigs get the ticker RACIN’) for another electrifying, educational, and above all HISTORICAL episode of CommanderCast. To help us out in conveying the olde-tyme theme, we’ve gotten the oldest person on the staff. Is it Imshan? Surprisingly no, it’s Old Man Fred, aka Fred Cole aka Mr. Ancient Wisdom. We managed to pull Fred away from his Twitter account THOUGH TIME, back to the days of audio-only media where you gather the fire around the transistor… iPod… and listen in to myself, Donovan, Justin and our special guest with the whole fam.

This week CommanderCast is taking a few pages from the Steven Seagal handbook and we’re going to break down ‘Aikido’ decks, where you use the strength of your opponents against them. To help me out I’ve got super-blackest black belt Cassidy Silver (disclaimer: may be some kind of citrus belt), The Spirit of MtGCast Chris Lansdell, and guest beasting this week is my man Omar Hernandez, one of the first-ever CommanderCast listeners. The four of us embark on a mystical journey of both spiritual, intellectual and even physical improvement as we examine the fine art of playing your opponent’s deck better than he/she can.

Oh, we also totally are doing an Entourage on Shimatsu the Bloodcloaked, so stick around for that train wreck. Plus, we’re examining an individual Aikido deck where we examine David’s Wrexial, the Risen Deep deck in depth in the first-ever Wrexial-Approved Roundup.

Before this continues, I’d like to thank Dayne Taylor for catching one of my many ridiculous rules derps regarding Time Stop! I have been informed the card exiles itself, which is something I had never noticed (and none of my opponents had surprisingly ever mentioned to me), so I can’t use it for a soft-lock piece anymore in my shitty Group Hug deck. I’ve edited the show to keep anybody from learning to cheat from my ignorance. THANK YOU DAYNE! I will let my opponents who have lost to this give me a free face punch and curse your name after each one.

Yep, I think this week I posted the right file and everything! If not… welp… deal with it I guess.

I have Carlos, Imshan and Max (in his podcast premiere) on the mic this week and we’re all spitting hot fire into the proverbial booth with another CommanderCast club banger. When I asked Max what he wanted to speak about, he said we should hit on the theme of competitiveness, keeping it casual, and the howling chasm between them and what it meant to us. I tried to keep the these across all the subjects, but I just had to hit up the Reliquary Tower thing for our Technology segment this week. Outside that, we’re talking about cards that wreck up games, how to assess threats properly in abstract, and more. You know how it is.

This is the final week of Gifts Given omg spend money! We’ve got a real boss auction to cap this shit with the Pack To Charity binder compiled by my man Jordan! Bid on this joint and be a part of MtG history (sort of).

Always forging ahead into the unexplored realms of the Commander experience, this week the CommanderCast Adventure Submarine dives deep into the world of the Commander Cube! With myself as the captain of this (doomed) vessel, I have Sean on deck as skipper (totally wearing one of those silly hats) with Justin and special guest Hayley serving as our navigators into these uncharted cardboard seas. The synthesis of Commander and a full-fledged Cube draft seems like the best of both worlds, combining the multiplayer action and longer games of EDH with the quick thinking and deckbuilding skills that a limited environment necessitates. Justin and Hayley are some of those few who have taken the plunge into an EDH Cube and survived. This week they’re kind enough to feed us their expertise.

In other news UP IN THIS BITCH, don’t miss out on the Season 5 Contest! I’m taking entries for about a month, until the 14th of March, so get on your Magic Set Editor grind.
