Welcome back to another season of CommanderCast. Last season I covered laughably bad magic art as well as awesome alters in my Massive Art Attack series. This season I’ll be focusing more on the commander format itself. I still want to highlight great altered cards from time to time, but it won’t be the focus of this season’s writing. In Staple Remover I’ll be covering how to make your commander decks more entertaining and budget friendly. I’ve started powering down my decks, and you can too! It’s a blast. Get those EDH “staples” out of your deck because I’m about to get real weird with it. This week, for my first article of the season I’ll introduce you to the concept of the $0.00 deck.

It’s Friday and that means its time to look at some ways to make your decks a bit more fun and most likely more budget friendly.  This week on Staple Remover I’ll be making a case against using proxies in your commander deck. Why am I against the use of proxies? They are a crutch that I don’t think anyone needs in this format. Using proxies means you are missing out on trying new cards and experimenting.  Dump those proxies and open up some new deck building challenges and add some play variety. Read on, and if you agree or disagree with my thoughts on proxies be sure to leave a comment below.

This week on Staple Remover we are going to take a specific look at Mana Rocks. I’m going to recommend a couple of budget friendly options you can include in your deck once you are fresh out of the more expensive and powerful artifact mana sources like Sol Ring and Mana Crypt. Maybe you just want to stick to a budget and need some effective mana rocks that are under $1.00 a piece or you just want a change of pace. Either way, read on and I’ll present you with a few mana rocks you may not have considered before.

With Staple Remover I aim to help players who feel that their deck lists have become too powerful or too reliant on commander staples.   This week I’ll introduce another idea that may help you get more creative with your deck building, pick out a pet card and run with it.  Build around your pet card and make it dance in ways no one thought possible. The pet card doesn’t need to be good at all. In fact for my example I’m picking out a real stinker:

On Staple Remover this week I am going to take a look at card draw in black. When someone is running black in their deck they will often be packing a couple of tried and true card draw staples. Maybe you’ve heard of them before?

It’s the 5th of July, that means you are probably either hung over or recovering from your firework related injuries.  Maybe both.  This week on Staple Remover I’m going to have some light reading for you while you chug Gatorade / apply Aloe to your bottle rocket palms.  I’m going to keep things in flavor and throw out some odd ball combos that exist in Red, White, and/or Blue.  If you are reading this article in another country other than the US and you have no interest in the 4th of July and the Red White and Blue, well, your flag most likely has Red, White or Blue in it, or most importantly one of your commander decks surely does.  Read on for some combos that just may find their way into your deck over that Mind Over Matter Temple Bell combo.
