In this instance, I’d like to assume that the reverse is also true

Hi all,

As you may have noticed, this is usually where the podcast goes but it’s just me typing out a mea culpa this week.  Long story short: I needed some more time to wrap up the stack of grading I had at the end of the marking period and we didn’t have much of a topic lined up until next week, so it became an unintentional week off.

However, I’m never one to let space go to waste.  Whenever downtime hits, I usually go back to the well and check out some weird one-offs or dumb cycles of cards that I’ve either been meaning to pick up or that I haven’t found a proper home for yet.  Maybe some of these will find their way into a future ‘cast or be consigned to the dustbin of my trade binder; for now, though, I need a second opinion:

This entry is part 302 of 361 in the series CommanderCast

Hello everyone and welcome to CommanderCast Episode 290! We’re your weekly source for Community, Strategy, and Technology, hosted on MTGcast.com and our homesite: CommanderCast.com! This week Mark and Adam are talking all about tiers, baby! For those of you not in the know, tiers are kind of a ranking system with 1 being the highest and everything else falling into a lower tier. Not saying one is better than the other, but the higher the tier the more proficient and cut-throat the deck. This is a great way to keep your playgroup all on the same level of game play. If your group is more casual and based on fun, you may want to play a lower tier deck. But if you’re trying to be the best (like no one ever was) a higher tier meta might be what you seek. So if you’re down with that all you have to do is click the IB!!!

I can’t even front: this is one of my favourite episodes of CommanderCast, ever.

How did that happen? Well, first of all we had show notes made entirely out of gunshots… what could be harder than that? Then I hooked up a roster of guests from all corners of the Commander community: myself providing a nonstop torrent of gibberish and screaming catchphrases, Justin bringing his judge knowledge and EDH Cube perspective, Derfington dropping science on Pimpology and then to round out the squad we have a blast from the past with Angry Graybeard bringing his wisdom and experience from his years as a wily veteran. This four-man tactical podcasting team storms your speakers this week with a show of dizzying heights and terrifying, depressing lows. All things considered, I had a lot of fun recording it and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking.

What was the big deal with this week’s show? Well, consider the following:

1) Graybeard rapped.

2) Justin got confused a few times throughout (drunk/stoned? Both probably) and gave us some great bloopers, not all of which made it onto the show.

3) We had real topics! There should be something for everyone here, no doubt in my mind about that.

CommanderCast is no longer the only Commander-centric podcast running. We now have a brother podcast in Off-Color Cast, a trio of manliness dedicated to showcasing the “serious, the aggressive, and the awesome” of the EDH format. This week I’ve invited all three thugs from OCC onto CommanderCast for a dirty crossover episode that you really can’t afford to miss.

This episode was one of trials and tribulations, not because of technical problems I’ve come to accept are the new norm but rather because we spent about three hours recording. The conversation was veering wildly across the barren wasteland of our collective minds, occasionally crashing into things like a ghost breaking into my house, Calvin’s enormous anatomy, and much more. But still, we powered through and created a reasonably coherent episode, which I think is praise-worthy.

The Season 5 Contest is still a thing that is happening and you can enter it.
