378127_10150441621792624_1477312954_nSo as you my have heard on this week’s episode of Commandercast (and if you haven’t, go listen to it now! The whole Commandercast.com staff is on to review the precons and make penis jokes at each others’ expense), we have put out the call to the Commandercast listeners to cast their vote for which new precon commander we are are going to put through a deck building gauntlet.

One general will go through every writer’s column over the course of two to three weeks, with the end result being a freakish Frankensteinian chimera of all our different deck building styles. What fun!

But maybe you’re still undecided regarding which general you want to cast your vote for. Cool, I’ve got something to help with that. Today I am going to go through all of the precon generals and give a quick synopsis of what I think their best deckbuilds are, as well as preview two cards that I am going to try and fit into the deck should you pick it as our contender for the gauntlet. (Sorry, can’t do more than two cards. You wouldn’t want me to give away all the upcoming tech now, would you?)

Ten generals? And two cards each? Oh, I am just going to make it rain tech!

Today is a special day folks. Today is the day that we come together to take on the momentous challenge that is, reviewing the Commander 2013 pre-constructed decks! But this task…there are so many cards! How can a lone pair of podcasters review the whole thing by themselves? Truth is, we can’t. Superman and Batman need some help here, and they know who the need to call. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to: The Commander Council.

378127_10150441621792624_1477312954_n    Eric Bonvie. Comedian, Canadian, and all around hard-ass. His competitive meta has molded this once soft and vulnerable man into a sculpted god of competitive EDH.

ohlookapicture Brian. Known for thinking “outside the box” a little too often, he serves as Commandercast underworld informant, constantly keeping his head down and his ears even lower, catching every whiff of Commander news that crops up.

Specializing in alternate arms dealing, Chris B. scours the dredges of forgotten wasteland, salvaging gems and gold mines alike from the garbage we’ve all left behind. Also a connoisseur of fine art which he may or may not have found among the garbage.

90x90 nole Nole Clauson acts as the Strategic Defenisve Coordinator for the team, locating key points of position and scrambling the troops as necessary. Only he knows where everyone is at all times.

Now that we’ve brought this team together, it’s time to dive into this sucker and rip it a new one. LET’S GET IT.

This entry is part 7 of 7 in the series Up! Your! Deck!

378127_10150441621792624_1477312954_nIn order to review the new Commander 2013 product for Commandercast.com’s upcoming theme week, I was asked (actually ordered. You could even say I was… Commanded) to play an unaltered preconstructed deck, so that I could accurately assess its worth for the site’s fans. In my case I was assigned the Jund deck, and I went out to test it against some of the 1 on 1 decks Ottawa has to offer.

Not since American History X have I born witness to such a vicious curb stomping.

At least the guys beating me didn't have swastika tattoos. I think.

Hey there everybody! William here, and I’m sooo glad that Calvin could put in the extra hours to make sure this weeks episode was edited in time to make this work! Why, you might ask? Because this week, we’ve got Bennie Smith from Star City Games on with us, and he’s on to help us talk about and analyze the brand-spanking new Commander 2013 decks!

These bad boys are a lot more streamlined and focused than their 2011 counterparts, so we’re going to dive in and see if we can’t uncover the strategies and synergies/interactions that these decks have hidden away. I, for one, am very excited to be playing Derevi in less than a week’s time. I’ve been obsessively studying the list, and I seem to have stumbled upon some very interesting interactions for not just Derevi, but the other generals as well.

We’ll be touching “briefly” on how new sets and expansion products affect not just standard or legacy, but Commander as well. But let’s face it, you just want to hear us talk about the new cards, so we’ll be talking about the individual cards for our technology segment.

And don’t forget! Gifts Given 2013 is in full-swing! Donate to the children, get sweet prizes! This is definitely something worth doing, no?
