CommanderCast #100 – Centurions

Welcome to CommanderCast’s 100th episode!
Two years after some humble beginnings, we’ve reached this point. The audioscape adventure across the once-wild frontier of EDH has rumbled through all kinds of strange and exotic territories now, picking up and dropping off co-hosts, guests, and contributors as it’s moved. I’d like to think in it’s wake, the virtual caravan has left everyone changed in some way for the positive–more enlightened, more social, better at the game, but above all else entertained and informed.
For this special episode, I’ve assembled CommanderCast’s Centurions: a legion of guests and co-hosts from across the history of the show who have answered the call specifically for this feature. Together, twenty different voices will attack a broad range of subjects. There’s something for everyone in these nine topics, with as many viewpoints as I could squeeze in recording them over almost three months. I hope to take EDH players everywhere into 2013 with a really unique experience. It’s a long one, and there’s a lot in the show notes, so you might want to just sit back and enjoy this one to the fullest with this page at the ready for links and such. Also, there’s lots of ways to get in touch with the various people you’re hearing here. Don’t hesitate to do so to further the discussion.
Thanks to everyone who helped out with the recording and production of the show! I know some of the times were a bit of a hassle so I appreciate all the Centurions putting in a little extra effort to be true Gs and make it to the recordings.

Remember this?

this banner is still awesome
I sure do!
This week, we do a sort of throwback episode–a retrospective and whatnot. I am joined by Byron for this episode as the two of us went back to the origin of this whole audioscape adventure. I looked over the notes of S1E1 and transformed them into the show you see today, where we take a look back on many of the same topics as we discussed two years ago with the benefit of hindsight, talk about the future, and shout out some of our brothers in content production too.
Be sure to come back tomorrow for a very special edition of CommanderCast, the biggest episode ever to kick off 2013!

Happy Holidays
Welcome to a very special weekend update. We didn’t want to interrupt your usual useful content with something like this. It has been proven people are less likely to complain when new material doesn’t interfere with their normal schedule. As a thanks to you, the faithful CommanderCast audience and as a avenue for self promotion for myself, I bring you something new to listen too.
I would like to introduce the new Commander podcast on the block, Serious Tryhard Podcast. STP takes a drastically different approach to the Commander podcasting format. STP has one host and one editor who will occasionally chime in. The casts are short and far from sweet. Settling in with episodes only 20 minutes in length, this is the sitcom of the Commander world.
STP focusing almost entirely on either on satirical rants or on technology segments. OCC and Commandercast cover social issues in the format, while STP has decided to focus on making a better decks. You can see the latest episodes every week starting the beginning of 2013 at http://thetryhardnation.com Read the rest of this entry »
S8E6 – Griselbrand Makes Us All Better People

This is a podcast full of life lessons, emotional moments, dick jokes, and stirring discussion. It’s almost the most distilled form of Community, Strategy and Technology you can imagine: CommanderCast boiled down to it’s essence. I am pleased to be joined by four of CommanderCast’s longest-running staff members, Donovan, Carlos and Brionne for another round of podcasting goodness. This week, we delve into the usual mixed bag of topics and I am reminded what an excellent team I am lucky to be surrounded by (digitally, at least) on this project. This was a particularly fun show to produce as I felt if these guys had been sitting across the table from me in the real, it would have been exactly the same. Both in real life and in my online communities, this is a great time of year to be surrounded by your truest homies, even for somebody like myself who practices nothing and recognizes no dates on the calendar save Remembrance Day.
Results for the Season Eight Contest will be coming tomorrow, so be sure to keep CommanderCast in the scope even on Christmas day. With the help of PolishTamales, Brionne and the Circle of Judgment, we’re giving one of the best holiday gifts of all–a swagnificent proxy made up with super slick original art.

S8E5 – Best In Two Sittings

You want a set review? Well, it’s going down rightwise in this episode. Charging into the fray of an hour-plus set review of a really mammoth set for EDH, Avacyn Restored, I’ve assembled a crack team of ballers to help me analyze the poop out of this set from many angles. On my side, I’ve got two staff members–Justin and Max–and backing us up is the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion of Commander Streaming, Beardy of BeardyPlays. It’s an elite group to help me hold things down since, as usual, I have no clue what I’m talking about.
However, it’s not that the set review is the only thing on the show–far from it. We put on our thinking caps and engage in gentlemanly discourse over a variety of topics in the first hour of the show, including a truly stirring debate on that defines the format’s greatest decks and a lively discussion on the merits of recreating the Enchantress archetype in Commander.
