When I announced the first Season Five Contest, I wasn’t expecting a lot of entries because it required a pretty specific skill set. Only so many people know how to make music, let alone send it out into the intertron as an MPThrizzle. As a result, entries were few, but the quality of each was very high, and we ended up with a solid new Free-For-All Roundtable theme song. All was well, but I knew I wanted to do a second contest that would be a bit more accessible. I also know a lot of people out there love making cards, redesigning cards, and playing around with the game mechanics. So I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted to do; I’d been thinking about this contest idea since Season Two and wasn’t sure when to drop it.

Well, when you have no other ideas, it’s always the right time to deploy anything you thought of earlier.

With the announcement of Season Five Contest Two, my e-mail account began to flood with entries, then tapered off to a trickle after time went on. I was pretty sure we’d settle around fifty entries, but in the last hours before the deadline, I got like twenty entries. It was a lot, when you consider every entry had at least five cards within (some had more!). A lot of these had an enormous amount of time put in and it was pretty obvious; we got hundreds of words in explanations of mechanical and flavour considerations for each card with some entries. Others had new custom art. The range of entries were so diverse, it was pretty tough to pick winners, so I certainly deferred to my homies. To pick winners, CommanderCast staffers Brionne, Max, and Justin helped me sift through these entries to pick a winner.

I want to thank them for this. It really was a lot of stuff to look over, and they even went ahead and sent me nicely-packaged explanations of why they choose the entries that they liked to win. You’ll be able to read those below. Read the rest of this entry »

Whoops! There’s a fire spreading rapidly through the internet! CommanderCast IGNITES THE CALL-INFERNO for the fourth time, spewing HOT FLAMES across the webtertron’s Commander community!

We’re spitting wisdom, knowledge and understanding in a communal learning experience in the form of a 90-minute-or-so podcast where five brave components of the CommanderCast audience put their voices on the line to risk a shouting match with a witless idiot and his wiser, more level-headed co-administrator. As always, a gauntlet of topics slam down in front of us and we navigate it with everything we can muster, our manly spirits combining into a towering blaze the likes of which have never been seen before. Well… except these other three times. But whatever, shut up and ignore the details.

Are you going to Pax East? If so, let me know because the CommanderCast Box Social is going to pop off yet again in Boston! Last year we had a ton of fun and showed a ton of new players how to do the whole EDH thing, so I’m hoping for a repeat this year.

This week for CommanderCast’s audience appreciation month we tagged in longtime listener Scott to fill one of the spots in the cipher. Also backing me up on the track this week we have Byron and Sean laying wisdom down and slapping the EDH Theorycraft Tryhards back into position with real experience-based advice. For this week’s episode we continue the trend of continuing to present entirely topics suggested by the audience, with a bit of a slant towards going outside the rules a la Cassidy’s Audacity. Un-cards? House rules? Bluffing strategy? Yep, we covered all that and more this week.

Hey guys, it’s a sweet episode of CommanderCast! I’ll not lie, my free time is basically entirely entirely consumed by Mass Effect 3 at the moment. It was a real struggle to keep my attention focused on doing something else for a few hours, including this episode. But I managed to pull it off. This week’s episode also was down a man, featuring myself with capable backup from Scott of the Eh Team podcast and my man Andrew Magrini, Twitter Fiend and longtime CommanderCast advocate for our special audience guest for the ongoing audience appreciation month. We’re also continuing the theme of the month with every topic being an audience contribution.

We’re in the final stretch of time to submit your entries for the Season 5 Contest, so hustle on that if you want to make it in on the deadline (March 14th!).

CommanderCast goes international for the first episode in Audience Appreciation Month, kicking things off with special guest Thomas from all the way in New Zealand. Using advanted intertron spacetime distortion technologies (like Skype and the world clock), we have connected and recorded another explosive round of the audioscape adventure into the uncharted bowels of EDH. For the duration of audience appreciation month, all topics covered on the show will be audience-suggested, so if you sent me a topic like eight months ago… I’ve been working towards it, trust me.

Beyond that, we have a grand old time in this episode as Thomas turns out to be an OG from across the sea (note the illest rhymes on record). With myself drunk at the helm, Byron and Brionne act as stabilizing elements and our fearsome foursome lay science upon all manner of EDH topics that our audience have requested coverage of.

Oh yeah plus that whole Season 5 Contest thing that’s still happening. You could look into it, or not. Whatever (LOOK INTO IT).

Don’t forget we’re in the planning phases for our next towering Call-Inferno as well! If you want to make the jump from the audience into the cipher of CommanderCast’s next audience-interactive recording, read this page and send me an e-mail!
