This entry is part 480 of 493 in the series CommanderCast

Hello everyone and welcome to CommanderCast Episode 442! This week Mark and Adam are giving you a bit of a mixed bag for today’s episode. So let’s break this one down for you. First, we got some spoilers for the upcoming set Modern Masters 2 and a few from the D&D: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. Once we’re done with that we have a Strategy segment where the question of deck thinning is put on the table for discussion. Is it truly worth it to include cards for thinning your deck over just adding something else like draw or tutor effects? Then finally we wrap things up with a little protection. Listen, some times you need to play it safe. You never know when something harmful will come your way when you lay your stuff out on the table for the world to see. So you need some security for you most valuable creatures and what better then with a few ways to give them protection.

All that, plus our usual interstitial fodder, and all you have to do is Click the IB!!!

Is deck thinning worth it?

  • Yes, there is a minute increase in the percentage of drawing a non-land card by thinning your deck, but it’s not really worth it in EDH
  • The fewer cards you have in your deck, the higher the percentage

Technology

Creatures that grant protection to your Commander (and maybe other duders too)

*Editor’s Note: How did we forget to mention Mother of Runes / Giver of Runes here??
