This entry is part 531 of 542 in the series CommanderCast

Hello everyone and welcome to CommanderCast Episode 489!  This week Mark and Adam are going over the most recent news about the recent return to one of Magic’s loved sets, Dominaria! Dominaria United will be releasing on September 9, 2022 and we are starting to get spoilers for what to expect in the set. First we take a moment to talk about some of the recent cards that were revealed from the set. We then take a quick look at a type of card that was the inspiration for the Level Up mechanic. Figure of Destiny started the ball rolling and since it was printed there have been a few cards that came from its design and we take time today to evaluate them. We wrap things up with a quick look at some of the old Legends cards we would like to see a retrain of with the new Legends Reborn from the set.

All that, plus our usual interstitial fodder, and all you have to do is Click the IB!!!

Legends Return: The First Dominaria United Previews Are Here,” by Adam Styborski

  • Dominaria United releasing September 9, 2022.

New spoilers

*Editor’s note: the audio got too garbled for the last two cards. I tried to clean it up, but that just made it sound worse, so we did talk about these but unfortunately the internet gods deemed it unfit for your ears.  Our apologies.

Interstitial fodder:

  • Mark finally joins 2022 and watches Squid Game.
  • Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
  • Video game golf is the only acceptable way to play golf
  • Sandwich update!!

Strategy

Trying–and mostly failing–to play with One-drop pseudo-Level Up creatures.

Pros

  • Easier to reanimate
  • Early drops to commit to board presence

Cons

  • A lot of investment in one creature

Technology

We take our own crack at “Legends Reborn” with other old bad cards that need a tune up.
