This entry is part 136 of 542 in the series CommanderCast

He did it…that son of a gun actually went and got Adam Island-Punching  Styborski of DailyMTG’s “Command Tower”. Well slap me with a Mystic Remora, Calvin did it!

If you’ve never heard of him before, then I highly recommend you check out his vast array of articles covering Commander. This guy is part of the reason I was able to get into Commander as well as I did by providing great content for readers like me. In fact, he was the only guy I knew about way back when.

It was real great to have him on, talking about rival players (those guys you just HAVE to beat), using underplayed or obscure generals, and wrapping it all up with probably one of our most challenging entourages yet: Anthousa, Setessan Hero!

Anthousa, Setessan Hero

All this and more, after the Ib!

For every benchmark we reach, we’ll add more prizes to the pool!

Sometimes you have someone that you mark for death every time you sit down together. Sometimes it’s because you hate that person’s deck or playstyle or what have you so much that you need to be the one who elminates them. Other times it’s someone you consider a challenge to defeat. Does it enhance your games when you have someone you think of as “your rival”? Or does it create a bitter, bitter atmosphere that gets everyone riled up and creates a hostic enviroment?
Strategy: I’m sorry, WHO’S your commander again?

Sometimes players take a shine to commanders that you never really see outside of an old trade binder (for example, me and Atalya, Samite Master). Using commanders that do odd or unique things is one way to avoid getting the crosshairs set on you, but using older commanders that no one’s either seen before or remembers!
Technology: WHO’S A “TERRBILE CARD” NOW?!?!!?

Anthousa, Setessan Hero

It’s entourage time! This week, we’re looking at a card widely regarded as a huge head scratcher. Even our normal listeners thinnk she’s an awful card, the Setessan hero herself!

What will it take to make her legend one to be told for generations to come? We’ll put our heads together to figure it out!

Game plan:

1) Targeting Anthousa with combat tricks and enchantments to pump up lands, then swing for beats. Be sure to find

2) Playing land powered cards like Avenger of Zendikar to make use of massive land drops.

3) Voltron damage with Anthousa, enabled by auras like Moldervine Cloak.
Card suggestions: (Most of William’s came from faithful listeners/followers, so thank you!!!)

William: Isochron Scepter (for using those combat tricks over and over again), Dolmen Gate, Sosuke, Son of Seshiro, Timber Protector, Patron of Orochi, Resize, Burst of Strength, Ranger’s Guile,

Calvin: Invigorating Boon (will require many cycle cards), Decree of Savagery, Omnath, Locus of Mana, Curse of Predation, Vitalize, Mobilize, Bear Umbra, Llanowar Druid, Tempt with Discovery, Eldrazi Conscription
