Friday Flashback – January 13, 2012

The Friday Flashback returns for Season 5. This is a good time to suggest, if you aren’t already familiar with them, that you should probably investigate the Friends page of CommanderCast.com where you can find our affiliates. These are sites that are all great community resources run by regular games just like me and you. They produce awesome articles, videos, and whatnot for you on a regular basis, so with all those awesome sites there’s no reason you should ever be left hurting for EDH-related content. These Friday updates are a compilation of the work they’ve produced throughout the week in a single location so you can browse it all at your leisure.
But, as always, some housekeeping. I recommend STRONGLY that you investigate these dope-ass Gifts Given auctions, since it’s all FOR THE CHILDREN. If you know anything about making music (or even if you don’t), you might as well craft an entry into the first Season 5 Contest. And, naturally, check out our new YouTube portal (administered by my man Karston aka Mr. TopAndGo) and Facebook page. (administered by my main man/loan shark Donovan).
Enough of my rambling, check out all this ballin’ EDH-related madness that dropped throughout the week!
THE WEEK IN REVIEW
- Here at CommanderCast:
- I posted S5E1: Superlegendary
- Sean drops “Braids, Drinker of Tears” where he takes a listener’s deck and blows it up BIG. Is Sean the Surgeon General of deck doctoring in the EDH world? I have no doubts the answer is YES
- Fred hobbles his old ass onto the internet, taking a break from yelling at young people, to post “Ten Cards From Arabian Nights You Should Be Playing”. Gather round, young’uns… it’s more Ancient Wisdom!
- Imshan floods out your mind with mana with his latest Kamigawa-related brew: It’s “Sasaya, An Ocean of Mana”. When it comes to money, mana and… arrgh… something else that starts with ‘m’ that’s awesome… ah fuck it
- One of our new affiliates, General Damage Control, comes out strong with a literary Shoryuken to the dick of boring writers everywhere. It’s a one-two combo:
- “The Isperia Project, Part 1”: Is it a thriller about some secret government program? No… better. Cassidy is playing doctor with somebody’s Isperia deck, flipping the clearly-labelled ‘BEAST MODE’ switch.
- “A Banker’s Dozen”: Cassidy provides a 13-hit super combo of thoughts on Commander for you.
- Three To The Face!!! can’t stop… WON’T stop. The Captain is playing with time itself this week with the outstanding “Stops Copying Me! Stops Copying Me!” theme deck… a Riku deck not to be missed! One of the most creative I’ve ever seen for sure.
- Dominik has “Flashback!: the Best of the Knowledge Pool for 2011” on Completely Casual. Check out these greatest hits and you might find a gem you missed the first time around!
- Another new affiliate, One General To Rule Them All, similarly has a two-fer this week… CHECK THEM BOTH OUT
- Coda begins a new series with “Commander Cube First Pick #1”, where a pack from the EDH cube is cracked. What will you take P1P1?
- Another hit from Coda: “Jenara Gets Serious”, where her Jenara deck decides it’s time to stop durdling and start dreamcrushing.
- On CMDRDecks, Check out Fabio as he walks you through his Karn, Silver Golem build which is a mana making machine that can beat you with big robots or animate all his artifacts to swarm in. This is truly a highlander deck, no basic lands are allowed.
- You can check get links to Cassidy’s newest article on Theme decks over at www.youcanthandlethenath.com, and you can check him out on Off Color cast, alongside Christian aka Boel, and Captain Red Zone himself, Calvin, over at www.offcolorcast.com.
