Hey everyone, Rhyno here charging at you with the tenth and final installment of “One-Two Punch”, a 10-part series where I show you 3 powerful card pairs, one 2-color guild at a time.
I’ve had a blast writing this series and hearing about the awesome one-two punches you guys are playing in your own decks.
These are NOT combos in the traditional sense that they instantly K.O. (cuz that’s below the belt). Instead, they’re the jab and the uppercut you need to get back in the fight when your opponents have you cornered.
Green-white is Selesnya…Let’s go!
Move 1: Darien, King of Kjeldor + Leyline of Vitality
With Darien out, you may actually want people to attack you so you can enlist a soldier battalion. Problems is, you could end up taking heaps of damage the first time you’re attacked with Darien on the field.
Leyline of Vitality solves this problem by gaining you back exactly as much life as you lost when the soldiers arrive on the field of battle. To boot, your men will be feeling a small burst of vital energy in their buttocks!
When playing Darien, just remember to thank your opponent for the army!
Move 2: Avenger of Zendikar + Flickerform
Hordes of little token guys are prevalent in the land of Selesnya, so let’s explore another way to create cutesy critters. This time, you’ll be producing them yourself rather than benefiting from a gracious opponent like in Move 1. The combination doesn’t require much explanation–just just blink out ol’ A-to-the-Z and a sprout a gaggle of deceptively unassuming weeds. In the words of a friend, “that doesn’t suck”.
You can even hold off and use Flickerform to protect your Avenger from removal spells.
Move 3: Kamahl, Fist of Krosa + Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
Kamahl and Elesh Norn are both good on their own. But with their powers combined, you’ll be able to put a cap on opponents who like to go a little crazy in the land department. I’m not suggesting you Armageddon someone, but animating lands into -1/-1 creatures is a good way to get rid of specific lands that hinder you, like Maze of Ith.
So there you have it! Three one-two punches you can try pulling on your friends in your green-white deck.
What are your favorite one-two punches in the land of Selesnya? Let me know in the comments section below.
