This entry is part 1 of 10 in the series One-Two Punch

By Dodo Bird Commander writer Ryan Zeitz

Hey everyone, Rhyno here charging at you with the third installment of “One-Two Punch”, a series where I show you 3 powerful card pairs, one 2-color guild at a time.

These are NOT combos in the traditional sense that they instantly K.O. (cuz that’s below the belt). Instead, they’re the jab and the uppercut you need to get back in the fight when your opponents have you cornered.

Red-white is Boros…Let’s go!

Move 1: Aurelia, the Warleader + Waves of Aggression

As if dual combat phases wasn’t enough for Aurelia, Fuhrer of Face-Smashers, you can use Waves of Aggression to grant Aurelia and her loyal soldier legion a third trip to beatdown town. Got an extra land hangin’ out in your hand? Launch another wave of assaults next turn with the Retrace ability!

And if you’re true to the Boros fist, you’ll be playing plenty of creature pumps like Ogre Battledriver and Sword of Fire and Ice to make a frenzy of attacks really leave your opponents gasping for air.

Move 1, black

Move 2: Avatar of Slaughter+ Knight-Captain of Eos

This combination is consistent with the political nature of Commander. Using it, you’ll alter how your opponents play–and trust me, it’ll definitely benefit you.

Avatar of Slaughter practically mandates aggression while Knight-Captain deters aggression from coming your way. Just be sure to make your intentions clear–”if you attack me, you might just find your warriors take a sudden interest in pacifist activism!”

The trick with this one is to have a sizeable outpost of soldiers in your deck so you can keep up the ruse with Knight-Captain. In truth though, people may not even consider attacking you because of your ability to Fog–in which case you don’t even have to sacrifice your soldier guards in the first place!

Move 2, black

Move 3: Balefire Liege + Assemble the Legions

One 3/3 haster. Ah! Ah! Ah! Two 3/3 hasters! Ah! Ah! Ah!

Whether you’re in the market for attackers or blockers, this impactful pair lets you pump out power at an unparalleled pace. And something tells me you’re going to want to turn these little toy soldiers sideways since they certainly don’t suffer from summoning sickness.

And boy will the beatings get fierce if you’ve got another offensive all-star out there like Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran or Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer.

Move 3, black

So there you have it! Three one-two punches you can try pulling on your friends in your red-white deck.

What are your favorite one-two punches in the land of Boros? Let me know in the comments section below.
