Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Rival’s Duel. This we was supposed to simply be another let’s build for Rakdos the Defiler (We promised we would do this for like 5 months, we are true to our word, if incredibly untimely). However, the Commander rules committee decided that they had to drop a big rules change on us so we’ve got to address the elephant on the battlefield (because we can no longer shuffle him into the library or bounce him back to your hand). As always, full shownotes after the break.
0:00-23:43- Introduction
With last episode being a set review, there was a lot of news items tabled until today. Eric and Nole go over their thoughts on the new Lilliana in Magic Origins, shiny new judge foils, and follow up the question asked last time about the best hat in Magic. We also talk about certain Canadian pop stars’ music that may be a violation of the Geneva Convention.
23:44-41:50- Get the “Tuck” outta here.
In case you missed it, the RC has changed the rules about commanders going to the library or hand (commonly known as the “tuck” rule). We go over how this changes the format, why Red and White decks should be happy about this change, and answer the 1,000,000 dollar commander rules question (What happens now if I Chaos Warp a Commander?).
41:51-1:16:20- Let’s Build: Everything burns edition.
Rakdos the Defiler is one of those Commanders that is what is known in the business as, how shall we say, “unplayable garbage”. However, a fan asked us to try to build this and we are never one’s to shy away from a challenge. Check out Eric and Nole’s take on trying to make what may be the bottom of the Rakdos barrel playable.
