Monocoloured madness continues! The mono-green episode uppercut my computer and is now available to uppercut you in the ears, if you think this sounds good. Even if you don’t like getting hit by regular uppercuts, this is the sweetest type, so download it anyway. It’s not only mono-green we’re spouting off about, though; we’re also looking at scalable strategies and even sneaking in a set review of Mirrodin Besieged!

As we venture into the verdant abyss of mono-green’s possibilities, we’re joined by Cassidy Silver, who runs You Can’t Handle the ‘Nath and now can be found writing for TCGPlayer.com. As reinforcements, I bring my two mightiest mono-green warriors, Byron and Justin, to support my bumbling ass though this perilous journey of land ramp, bad removal and trampling mans.

The most sinister of mono-coloured strategies is on the horizon, blotting out the sun and with it, the other colours. This week CommanderCast is examining mono-Black strategies in EDH in strategy with a heaping helping of mono-black Technology to follow it up. I have Donovan and Adam (returning from an adventure, and having gained SEVERAL levels) joining me in welcoming our guest Don, who is in Japan and plays pretty much only mono-B decks. It seemed sensible to have him contribute to the show.

If you are reading this, then you are no longer entitled to enter the Season 3 Contest. Put your sharpies down. We’ll be doing a Circle of Judgment soon and should be announcing the winner in Episode 9 of the season. I would like to thank everyone who contributed as I personally received many larfs looking over these cards. The winner will be getting the hookup from my man Derfington, with the runner-ups getting a Stoneforge Mystic apiece.

CommanderCast is back to running on schedule! The season’s fifth podcast begins a series where we’re putting mono-coloured decks in Commander under some scrutiny, with a strategy and technology segment centered on whatever colour we’ve chosen to discuss. Each week, we’ll also have a new guest with some experience and thoughts on that colour. This week, we’re doing the best installment in the series: MONO-RED.

Of course, that’s not all. My man Devon, aka Obsidiandice, aka 4th Place in Great Designer Search 2 has a variety of topics to hold us down with, including a look at card design and multiplayer (EDH in particular), as well as the 2-mana installment of Curving Out. Carlos is also on deck backing me up as we continue to explore various facets of Commander on this audioscape adventure.

Also of importance: this is the last week for you to put in entries to the SEASON 3 CONTEST, and subsequently win a top-tier card alteration from Dave Lee aka Derfington of Durdling Around. But that’s not all… I’ve got two Stoneforge Mystics sitting here, donated incredibly generously by my man and CommanderCast diehard supporter Manny for runner-up prizes. Get them alterations in! E-mail CommanderCast(at)gmail(dot)com with the subject header “Season 3 Contest Entry” for a chance to win.

Off the hop: this is late. There was a technical issue with a program I use to send files to Donovan, the prooflistener, and some other stuff. Then, tonight when I wanted to post it, there was a power outage. But the podcast is here, and it’s a bit of a doozy, clocking in at almost two hours with some other important stuff in this post. CommanderCast’s personnel have been busy. I’ve paired today’s podcast with the mid-week update, so when you’re done checking out the podcast, don’t forget to read the article by Brionne!

In today’s late podcast, we’ve used the spare time prior to this posting to spend more time straight-up GRINDING with the new Commander product! Between release parties, pick-up games, and even online play, we’re here to provide a reasonably comprehensive look at there five new beasts as they’re released into the wild. On top of that, we’ve gotten feedback from out listeners who are contributing their thoughts on the new stuff to the podcast.

This week the staff consists of myself, Carlos, Justin, and lastly we’re joined by newcomer Brionne. In case you are not familiar with this name, it was the woman whose name I ever-so-gracefully gender-bent in the Season 2 Circle of Judgement, apologized to, and subsequently discovered the blog of. I was short on personnel to contribute to this podcast and she jumped in to help.

For this super-focused podcast, each podcaster is tethered to a specific deck for review purposes. Assignments are as followed:

  • ANDY is reviewing Heavenly Inferno
  • CARLOS is reviewing Devour for Power
  • JUSTIN is reviewing Mirror Mastery
  • BRIONNE is reviewing Counterpunch

The five of us pooled our experience to talk about Political Puppets.

As a few quick reminders before you start listening to the show:

  • Enter the Season 3 Contest!
  • The Mid-Week Update’s structure has changed to Wednesday, with the Friday Flashback now being posted on Fridays. This means on Wednesday you can expect to see an article occasionally accompanied by some other goodies, and on Friday we’ll be posting an article, the links to our affiliates and a video from CMDRDecks. This is kind of a big leap, so I hope it works out.

This week’s CommanderCast has Andy and his right-hand man Carlos joined by newcomer Justin, CommanderCast’s first DCI Judge guest-commentator and all-around baller. Justin was present for our first call-in show (the second is coming!) and also recently began writing for CommanderCast with his most recent article. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Justin join the ranks of CommanderCast regulars as he fits into the show’s crew quite well.

This week we’re talking about the upcoming Commander product, 1-drops, barriers to entry for the format, and some other odds and ends. Be advised we recorded this on Wednesday last week, and literally saw Kaalia five minutes before recording the segment about new cards. After I finished having a ‘joy seizure’ and composed myself, we were all quite excited to discuss the ups and downs of the new set. We don’t normally talk about unreleased product on CommanderCast, but how many times are we likely to see a product released specficially for the niche subgenre of the game we podcast about? It seemed like the best time to break the rule.

Join us next week where we’ll be giving the raw, gritty, hands-on reviews from our initial days of playing with the new product! You can also get in on the action by e-mailing us your experiences with the precons and ideas for taking the new cards in bold and money-making new directions.

As a few quick reminders before you start listening to the show:

  • Season 3 Contest. This one has been awesome, but time is running out! Get your entries in NOW!
  • The Deckbuilding Challenge, in the upper-left corner, has moved on to Phase 2. Have your say!
  • Check out the mid-week update on Thursday. It may be the last (for realz), before mutating into something new and… awesome?

So I was reading my Twitter feed and this guy, Chris Landsdell, kept hinting (occasionally just saying) he wanted to be on CommanderCast. So you know what I did? Asked him to come on the show. Of course, this wasn’t a typical invite with a week or so’s notice; instead, me, Carlos and Donovan were like “shit” when the fourth guy didn’t show up. So Chris parkour’d through the internet into our Skype discussion and within minutes, we were doing our thug thizzle laying down the podcast I present for your listening pleasure today.

If you are not familiar with the works of Mr. Lansdell, I recommend you investigate them; the toils of his authorship are readily available on Mana Deprived, and his podcast Horde of Notions can be found by following the link. Both should provide with an idea of what Chris is all about and hopefully leave you informed and entertained.

Anyway, this week’s battery of topics was rounded up in a five-minute Skype scrum loaded with sexist jokes, gay innuendos, and Simpsons references, so you know this is another quality episode of CommanderCast. I’m glad you guys keep coming back.

Also, don’t forget to vote on the Deckbuilding Challenge in the upper-left corner and get your sharpies out for the Season 3 Contest!
